Tony Quinlan Respite Centre open day highlights benefits of respite care

On Thursday 10 May, Southern Plus’ Tony Quinlan Respite Centre in Hilton hosted an open day for the local community to come along and find out about the benefits of respite care and see first hand the activities that respite clients can enjoy while at the centre.

Some of the activities visitors enjoyed at the open day included pet therapy, games, music and dance therapy and a demonstration of sanding and staining furniture from the local ‘Men’s Shed’ group.

Julie Arnould, Operations Manager for Southern Plus said respite care provided valuable support for carers in addition to the numerous benefits for those being cared for.

“We understand how tough it can be being a full-time carer, and how important it is for carers to have a much-needed break or time away from their usual care responsibilities to focus on their own health and wellbeing.

“Tony Quinlan Respite Centre provides an essential service to carers in the local community by providing day or overnight respite on either a one-off or regular basis,” Julie said.

Providing an enjoyable and relaxing atmosphere for clients, Julie said Tony Quinlan Respite Centre offers a broad program of activities including for clients with dementia and special needs.

“Our trained staff take the time to understand the needs and interests of the clients they care for and have developed a broad range of activities that are designed to promote cognitive stimulation and social connections. Additionally, having our own bus ensures our clients can also enjoy regular social group outings in the local community,” Julie said.

Among its broad range of in-home health and wellness services, Southern Plus also offers in-home respite care.
